Welcome to Cosmetic Dentistry Site
Cosmetic dentistry is a branch of dentistry in which people are made to look nice and beautiful. Cosmetic dentistry uses dental implants and surgery to make a person look appealing. People with deformities, injuries or teeth stains are made to look better with cosmetic dentistry. Cosmetic dentistry improves the appearance of people and makes them gain self confidence.
Cosmetic dentistry uses simple techniques like teeth whitening to complex techniques like reconstructive surgery. The more severe the injury, the more complicated the treatment is. Depending on the injury or the deformity of the mouth, the cosmetic dentist will plan the treatment to get the desired result.
The most common procedure in cosmetic dentistry is teeth whitening. Some people have natural yellowish teeth while for others it gets stained because of tobacco usage and food habits. Drinks like coffee, tea and colas can stain the teeth badly. Teeth whitening is also known as teeth clarification. Teeth whitening is done in the dentist's office with the help of chemicals. Teeth whitening kits are also available in the market. One has to buy them and follow the instructions to make their teeth white. This form of cosmetic surgery is done to make the teeth look pearly white. But if people resort to their old ways again then the stains will come back. Otherwise the whitened teeth will be like that for at least two to three years.
Another type of cosmetic dentistry is the fixing up of teeth plates. These plates are also called as teeth veneers. They are opaque shell like things made of porcelain. In cosmetic dentistry these veneers are used to enhance the color of the teeth or correct the shape of the teeth if one has broken teeth. Sometimes it is used for both the purposes. Fixing teeth veneers is one of the most affordable procedures in cosmetic dentistry.
Contouring is another form of cosmetic dentistry. Contouring which is also known as remodeling of teeth is used to treat chipped or cracked teeth. In this form of cosmetic dentistry, the dentist changes the shape of the teeth and corrects it. Contouring is used to correct crooked teeth also.
Dental liaison is another procedure which can be considered as cosmetic dentistry. In this procedure, resin filler is placed in the front and back of the teeth. This procedure is essentially used to treat and restore the worn out teeth by changing its shape and size. The resin is then connected with a plastic material which is placed over the teeth and a ray of high intensity light is focused on that. This makes the resin to harden and get set. The dentist then polishes the teeth which then look natural.
The most difficult cosmetic dentistry procedures are dental implants and dental surgery. Dental surgery is a surgery done in the gums to reduce their size so that they don't look obvious when one smiles. Dental implants are done to replace the missing teeth permanently. Orthodontics is another form of cosmetic dentistry where braces are fixed to correct crooked teeth or teeth which have not formed in a straight line.
Even though cosmetic dentistry helps a person look well and gives the person self confidence, it is highly expensive. So one should think twice before going in for cosmetic dentistry, consult with the doctor and go ahead with it only if it is absolutely necessary.
